Behind the Plate: Assembling a Production Meal

SYNOPSISCan you remember the last meal you were given as part of an arts project, be it a performance, film, or an exhibition? (Or were meals even provided in the first place?)
During a project’s crunch time, some people might see a production meal as just fuel, while others may have little to no appetite to consume anything. However, a thoughtfully prepared/ordered meal can be a much-needed happiness boost, and an important reminder to ground into and nourish our bodies. How might we navigate these different desires while being mindful of the production budget and possible food wastage?
Photojournalist and community organiser Bang, together with sous chef Bonnie Siew, propose their take on this question with a pop-up pizza and ice-cream station, facilitating a relaxed shared meal to collectively munch on these issues!

The food served is vegetarian and does not contain pork, lard, or alcohol, but is not halal-certified. If you would like a halal-certified meal, please indicate when you register on Peatix.
In the event of wet weather, this programme will be held within the sheltered areas of the rear courtyard and Rest & Digest Corner.

Photojournalist and Community OrganiserBang is a Singapore-based photojournalist and community organiser interested in how food, conversation and shared spaces can bring people together. Beyond the newsroom, he has organised informal dinners and gatherings, on a pro bono and voluntary basis, involving artists and creatives, alongside personal photography projects documenting artistic communities and individuals.

Bonnie Siew (they/them)
Community OrganiserBonnie is a community organiser and vagrant in the third-space community. Experienced in operations within the social impact space, they have organised ground-up micro-fairs for charities and have a keen interest in gathering as a mode of collective imagination for more intentional ways of living. Alongside supporting events regularly, they are completing their final year of studying psychology at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
