Contracting and Collaborating as Vulnerable Subjects

Work agreements are often uncompassionate and punitive because they assume that everyone around the table are healthy, resourced, and autonomous entities. Falling short of this standard results in a breach of the agreement and blame. However, human beings are by nature vulnerable subjects
that are always navigating harm, trauma and change. How then can we create working relationships in the arts that takes into account parties’ needs and vulnerabilities, while providing an acceptable level of legal certainty?

Drawing on Martha Fineman's Vulnerability Theory as a lens, artist Tan Jack Ky will facilitate a workshop supported by CITRUS' Chong Gua Khee to help participants cook up collaboration riders and inclusive contracts, as well as to reframe themselves as resilient vulnerable parties in working relationships.
